Open sky museum

Today I’m going to talk about the Open Sky Museum in Departamental.

One day I was traveling in a transantiago bus and saw this beautiful paints, is a set of twenty five murals located in the south of the city of Santiago. These works were painted in the blank walls of the “blocks” builded on Avenue Departmental.

The residents wants to stop and eliminate the deterioration of the buildings of the San Miguel population, produced by a lot of contamination, graffitis, scratches and wallpapers that make part of the sector. The cultural centre “Mixart” work patiently for three years to make this big masterpiece, with the support of the neighbors and some authorities.

The main theme of these paintings is the social culture, as the Mapuche culture, Latin America, the people of Chiloe, Human rights, the Communist Party and Chilean literature. All works were carried out with participation and support of Chilean artists, on the occasion of the 50 years of the town San Miguel and the Bicentennial of Chile.

The museum is open 24 hours, seven days a week, and it’s an example of the talent of our artists and our culture, open to anyone who wants to see it. It’s clearly a great job painting a building of 5 floors and shaping our culture there.

I hope you know it, it’s a beautiful experience.

Cheers!
